Ask the Advocates Our April support meeting will feature a panel of experts to answer your questions about advocating or the rights of your child or adult affected by autism. The meeting will be on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 7:00pm in the Activity Center at St. Ephrem's Catholic Church, located at the southeast corner of 17 Mile Rd and Dodge Park Rd in Sterling Heights

Our panel of advocates:

Sally Burton-Hoyle - currently an assistant professor of special education at Eastern Mich University and former executive director of the Autism Society of Michigan (1994-2006).

Sue Lind - special education advocate with ARC Services of Macomb. Ms. Lind is also the co-chair of the FARES (Fetal Alcohol Resources Education & Support) Macomb Coalition.

Lisa Lepine - Associate Director of ARC Services of Macomb and an attorney-at-law.

Teen Bowling EveningDate: 2008-04-18
Friday Friends Teen Bowling Outing The Friday Friends Teen Group will have a bowling evening on Friday, April 18, 2008 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at the Shelby Lanes Bowling Center, 50721 Van Dyke in Shelby Twp. (just south of 23 Mile Rd).

Friday Friends Teen Outings are for boys & girls with ASD ages 13-18. Attendees must be accompanied by an adult.

Bring a peer buddy. If your child has a peer friend they'd like to invite, first-time guests are half price. Contact Kara (see registration form) for more information.

Cost: Members: $ 2.50 per person; Non-members: $ 4.00 per person.

Winetasting FundraiserDate: 2008-04-26
2nd Annual Winetasting Fundraiser will be held at Fieldstone Winery on Saturday, April 26 from 3:00p until 9:00p. The Fieldstone Winery is located at 223 Main St in downtown Rochester.

Your ticket includes wine tasting, a variety of appetizers & desserts, a bottle of wine to take home, and entry into a raffle. 50% of the proceeds from any wine sales will go to OUCARES and the MSCCC/ASA. Orders of 6 or more bottles will come with your own custom label.

Scrapbook MarathonDate: 2008-05-03
Annual Scrapbook Marathon The MSCCC/ASA will be hosting its annual Scrapbook Marathon on Sat, May 3 2008 from 9:30a to 7:30p at the Macomb Intermediate School District Building, located at 44001 Garfield Rd, south of M-59 (Hall) Road. The facility features a brightly lit carpted room with padded chairs and a 3'-by-5' table for each cropper.

The day will include a scrapbooking gift for registered attendees, door prizes, a 50/50 raffles, prize baskets, and a $150-value mystery raffle item.

Walk/Run for AutismDate: 2008-06-21
3rd Annual Out & About Autism Walk/Run Save the date! Saturday, June 21, 2008 will be the 3rd Annual Out & About Autism Walk/Run at Stony Creek Metro Park (located at 26 Mile and Shelby Roads in Shelby Twp.

The run features a 5K run or a 1 mile fun walk through a cross-country course in Stony Creek Metropark. Awards are given to the overall male & female finisheers, as well as top male & female finishers by age category. Please see the registration form (attached below) for more information.

Registration Pre-event registration is available through Friday, June 6. Adults: $16.00, Kids under 12: $8.00. Event day registration will be Adults: $20.00, Kids under 12: $10.00. Ride for AutismDate: 2008-08-02
4th Annual Ride for Autism This year's motorcycle Ride for Autism will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2008. The ride will start at the Southfield Civic Center and will end at Biker Bob's, 14100 Telegraph Rd, in Taylor.

The day will begin with a breakfast from 8:00a until 10:00a. The ride itself will begin at 11:00a. Remember to stay for the party after the ride. There will be food, refreshments, raffle prizes, and entertainment all for a great cause. All proceeds benefit local chapters of autism enrichment.

Registration starts now through Saturday, July 19. Riders: $30.00 (shirt & pin), Passengers: $20.00 (shirt). Breakfast & lunch are included. Please visit the Ride for Autism website for the registration form: click here
